► (n. 1925) Fisiólogo estadounidense. Fue premio Nobel de Medicina y Fisiología en 1958, compartido con G. W. Beadle y E. L. Tatum, por sus estudios sobre genética bacteriana.

Genetista estadounidense. Obtuvo su Ph.D. en la Universidad Yale. Con su discípulo Norton Zinder, Lederberg descubrió que ciertos virus son capaces de transportar un gen bacteriano de una bacteria a otra. Esto convirtió a las bacterias, tales como la Drosophila y el moho del pan Neurospora, en herramientas importantes para la investigación genética. También desarrolló técnicas de cruzamiento para la genética bacteriana. En 1958 compartió el Premio Nobel con George Wells Beadle y Edward L. Tatum por el descubrimiento de los mecanismos de recombinación genética en bacterias.
